Helldivers 2 Opens the Illuminate Void With Randomized Objectives

The Illuminate Void is now accessible through a Gateway on Rirga Bay, with randomized primary objectives, secondary extraction zones and SEAF support.

Helldivers 2 has opened the Illuminate Void to players, with the Gateway on Rirga Bay now providing a route into the anomaly. Arrowhead’s August 18 briefing says operations inside the Void use randomized primary objectives, can include secondary extraction zones, and send squads toward the transformed Source Planet formerly known as Seasse.

The Gateway follows the Census Thunder campaign, during which Helldivers collected Voteless tissue samples from the Void. Arrowhead says Super Earth’s Ministry of Science used that research to work out how to open and stabilize a wormhole on Rirga Bay. The Gateway is now open, and squads are being sent through it as the Illuminate campaign moves deeper into the anomaly.

The August 18 Gateway milestone is also tracked in GameTechReport’s 2026 release calendar.

The Gateway on Rirga Bay now leads into the Void

Arrowhead describes the Void as a place with no stars visible from the planet surface, where worlds have been transformed after being pulled into the anomaly. Those planets contain Illuminate ruins and ancient technologies that players are being sent to document and destroy as they advance through the campaign.

The immediate strategic target is the Source Planet, formerly known as Seasse. Arrowhead says the world has been consumed by the Void’s haunting flora and is filled with Illuminate threats, including the Wretch and Crusher.

Rirga Bay is now the entry point to that new front. Squads cross the Gateway, move through transformed worlds and work their way toward Seasse.

Void operations use randomized primary objectives

Operations inside the Void are structured differently. Arrowhead says every operation has several randomized primary objectives, moving away from the more linear dives used before.

Examples include documenting discoveries with a tactical video camera, destroying Illuminate structures and conducting reconnaissance. The primary-objective mix can change from one operation to the next, so squads may need to adjust their priorities each time.

Secondary extraction zones give squads another way out

Secondary extraction zones give squads another option on Void planets. Once unlocked, they provide another place to evacuate after the required objectives are complete.

Arrowhead still describes the Void as dangerous and time-sensitive, so opening another extraction point does not remove the pressure at the end of a mission. It gives squads another route back to the Destroyer if they have unlocked one during the operation.

SEAF support squads can also join the push. Arrowhead says they will help players advance through the Void while squads investigate the anomaly and continue toward its source.

Devoid of Liberty arrived before the Gateway opened

Devoid of Liberty went live on August 12, with the Wretch and Crusher among its headline additions. Six days later, Arrowhead confirmed that the Gateway on Rirga Bay was open and that Helldivers had crossed into the Void.

The August 18 briefing is the next campaign step, not a separate update. With the Gateway open, Arrowhead gives a clearer picture of what happens after squads cross into the Void: transformed worlds, a route toward Seasse and operations built around randomized primary objectives.
