Forza Horizon 6 Resets Rivals Leaderboards After Exploit Fixes

Forza Horizon 6 has reset all Rivals leaderboards after exploit fixes. Legitimate records were removed, but earned Collection Journal rewards remain unlocked.

Forza Horizon 6 has reset all Rivals leaderboards after Playground Games patched glitches that produced unrealistic lap times. The reset arrived with the July 13 Italian Exotics update, version 398.92.0, on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC through the Xbox app, and Steam.

The wipe also removed legitimate records, so players who had earned clean leaderboard positions must set new times. Collection Journal items already unlocked through valid Rivals runs remain available.

The reset affects a large active audience. Forza Horizon 6 previously entered Steam’s five most-played games with more than 300,000 concurrent players, making reliable competitive rankings especially important.

Why Forza Horizon 6 reset the Rivals leaderboards

Playground Games identified two different sources of unrealistic results. Some entries were produced through gameplay glitches, while others were recorded with Drag Tires before the physics balance changes introduced on June 15.

The older Drag Tire times were not necessarily created through deliberate cheating. They were nevertheless achieved under vehicle physics that no longer match the current version of the game. Leaving them in place would have meant comparing new laps against records produced with different performance rules.

Rather than trying to remove individual suspicious entries, the developer chose a complete reset. That gives every player a common post-patch starting point and avoids leaving less obvious exploit times mixed into the rankings.

The reset covers every Rivals leaderboard, not only the routes where the most visible impossible records appeared. Players returning to a favorite circuit, road race, dirt route, or cross-country event will therefore need to complete another clean run before they appear in the rankings again.

Legitimate lap times were removed too

A full wipe inevitably removed valid records alongside the exploited and outdated results. Playground Games acknowledged that the decision would be disappointing for players who had spent time improving legitimate laps, but said a clean sheet was the fairest way to restore the rankings.

This is different from a routine seasonal rotation. The Rivals data was deleted because gameplay exploits and the June tire-physics changes had undermined direct comparisons between existing results, not simply because a new Festival Playlist series had started.

Once update 398.92.0 is installed, players can return to Rivals and record fresh times under the current physics and exploit fixes.

Previous placements and personal rankings are no longer active, even when the original lap was clean. Anyone who wants to reclaim a position must drive the event again and submit a new valid result.

Collection Journal rewards remain unlocked

The reset removes leaderboard records but does not reverse rewards already earned through legitimate Rivals participation. Playground Games confirmed that clean times used to unlock associated Collection Journal items will continue to be recognized.

In practice, a player may lose the visible lap time and ranking while keeping the reward earned for completing the related objective. There is no need to repeat an event solely to restore an item that is already unlocked in the Collection Journal.

Players who care about their competitive placement will still need to return to the event. This separates permanent progression rewards from live leaderboard data, allowing the rankings to restart without taking valid collection progress away.

The Rivals reset concerns leaderboard records. Separately, Playground Games says it is still investigating save-data problems affecting some players across supported platforms.

PR Stunts leaderboards are expected to be wiped later

The July 13 patch also fixes an exploit that allowed players to remove a locked tune during a PR Stunt and retain speed while entering a lower car class. Playground Games is still investigating other glitches capable of adding unrealistic scores to PR Stunts leaderboards.

A complete PR Stunts leaderboard reset is expected after the remaining fixes are deployed, but the developer has not announced a date. Rivals and PR Stunts should therefore be treated as separate clean-up operations: the Rivals wipe has already happened, while the broader PR Stunts reset remains pending.

The maintenance also comes during a period of strong commercial momentum. Forza Horizon 6 was previously estimated to be approaching 5 million sales, giving Playground Games a sizable player base to consider when making disruptive competitive changes.

For active Rivals competitors, the immediate next step is straightforward. Install the current update, return to the relevant events, and record new clean laps. The old tables are gone, earned Collection Journal rewards remain, and all players now compete from the same post-patch baseline.

The reset was not the last competitive change. Playground Games later added a temporary Edamame Time Attack circuit to Forza Horizon 6, separate from the leaderboard cleanup covered here.
