The Elder Scrolls VI finally has a full name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Bethesda Game Studios revealed it on November 3 at the end of a video for its 40th anniversary, more than eight years after the 2018 teaser that showed a landscape and a logo.
The name settles the setting question. Sentinel is a Redguard port city on the Iliac Bay in Hammerfell, and Bethesda’s post says the studio was finally sharing “the name and location.” Almost everything else is still missing. There is no release date, no platform list and no gameplay, and Bethesda says it will be “some time” before it shows more.
A scroll in the sand and a date: 4E 206
The teaser is short. An Elder Scroll rises out of desert sand, and the clip closes on an in-world passage attributed to Yazar, a Moth Priest serving Hammerfell’s High Queen. The passage is dated 4E 206 and opens with “The scroll offered only a shimmer.”
That date is the most concrete clue Bethesda has given. Skyrim takes place in 4E 201, so if the passage sits close to the main story, Sentinel lands about five years after the Dragonborn’s adventure. Bethesda has not said how the quote connects to the plot, so for now it is a teaser line, not a confirmed timeline.
Hammerfell is familiar ground for longtime players. The province appeared in Daggerfall and Redguard, and parts of it are playable in The Elder Scrolls Online.
Confirmed, reported and still unknown
- Confirmed by Bethesda on November 3: the full title, a location tied to Sentinel, and that development continues.
- Reported, not confirmed: on October 29, The Verge’s Tom Warren reported the Sentinel name and the Hammerfell setting, both now borne out. The same report, published in Warren’s Notepad newsletter and summarized by Inven Global, said the story will be the first in the series about the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. Bethesda has not addressed that part.
- Also reported: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said in a July Q&A that the game was still “two to three years away at least.” Bethesda itself has given no release window.
- Not announced: a release date or year, platforms, gameplay, editions, price and PC requirements.
Eight years from logo to name
- June 2018: Bethesda announces The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 with a short landscape teaser.
- September 2023: Starfield, the studio’s project before it, launches.
- July 2026: Bethesda says The Elder Scrolls VI is now the studio’s primary development focus.
- August 2026: Xbox CEO Asha Sharma refers to “The Elder Scrolls VI: ********,” and fans count eight letters.
- October 29, 2026: The Verge reports the Sentinel subtitle and Hammerfell setting.
- November 3, 2026: Bethesda confirms the name, about a week before Skyrim turns 15 on November 11.
Platforms are an open question
Microsoft owns Bethesda, so Xbox and PC look like the safe bets, but neither the video nor the post lists a single platform. The PlayStation question is no longer academic either: Bethesda brought Starfield to PS5 this year. Until Bethesda names platforms, any list you see is a guess.
The same goes for PC hardware. With no gameplay shown and no technical details announced, there is nothing yet to measure a graphics card against. We will add Sentinel to our release Calendar once Bethesda gives it a date or a window.
