The Blood of Dawnwalker’s console performance picture has changed before launch. Rebel Wolves now says a day-one patch will add a Performance mode targeting 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X. The previously announced Quality and Balanced modes remain, while Xbox Series S is now listed separately with a 30 FPS target.
The important detail is how the studio describes the change. Performance mode was already in development when Rebel Wolves published the original 30/40 FPS breakdown, but testing was not far enough along for the team to promise it for launch. Player feedback pushed the studio to finish another round of testing, and those results were enough for a day-one commitment.
60 FPS joins the existing 30 and 40 FPS modes
PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X will now have three console options at launch. Performance targets 60 FPS, Balanced targets 40 FPS and Quality targets 30 FPS. Rebel Wolves’ earlier footage described both Balanced and Quality as using a dynamic 4K target on PS5 and Series X.
The new announcement does not give an equivalent resolution target for Performance mode. That matters more than the headline frame rate alone: targeting 60 FPS usually requires a different graphics or resolution trade-off, but Rebel Wolves has not yet detailed which settings are reduced or how aggressively resolution may scale in the new mode.
Balanced mode therefore still has a clear place in the lineup. Its 40 FPS target sits between the smoother Performance option and the 30 FPS Quality mode. On a 120 Hz display, 40 FPS can be presented evenly at a 25 ms frame interval, although Rebel Wolves has not specified the display-mode or VRR requirements for using Balanced mode.
The 60 FPS mode was already being tested
The timing makes this look like a rapid reversal, but Rebel Wolves’ explanation is more specific. The studio says it originally shared only the console targets it was confident it could deliver on day one. Performance mode was already in the works and still being tested, so it was left out of the first breakdown rather than announced with an uncertain launch date.
After the response to the missing 60 FPS option, the team says it focused on completing the next round of tests. Those results gave it enough confidence to move Performance mode into the launch patch.
That distinction is worth keeping. Feedback appears to have accelerated the testing and confirmation of the mode; Rebel Wolves is not saying it designed a new 60 FPS option from scratch over the weekend. And the wording remains “targeting 60 FPS,” not a promise of a locked 60 FPS under every workload.
Series S is now confirmed at 30 FPS
The new breakdown also closes the biggest gap in the original console footage. Xbox Series S was a confirmed launch platform but had not been shown or given its own performance target.
Rebel Wolves now lists Series S simply as targeting 30 FPS. It does not announce separate Balanced or Performance modes for the smaller Xbox, and it has not published a resolution target or a detailed graphics-settings comparison for that version.
PS5 Pro, meanwhile, keeps the same 30, 40 and 60 FPS targets as the standard PS5 after the day-one patch. Rebel Wolves continues to describe the Pro version as offering overall visual enhancements, but it has not explained how those enhancements carry across the new Performance mode or what trade-offs are used to reach 60 FPS.
Dawnwalker still launches September 3
The Blood of Dawnwalker launches September 3, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The date is already tracked in the GameTechReport release calendar.
The launch-day console picture is now much clearer than it was when the first footage arrived: PS5, PS5 Pro and Series X get 30, 40 and 60 FPS targets, while Series S is currently listed at 30 FPS.
