Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition Modernizes the 2006 RTS

Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition brings the original RTS and both expansions to 64-bit systems with modern display, control, AI and mod support in fall 2026.

Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition is coming to PC in fall 2026, modernizing Relic’s 2006 real-time strategy game while retaining its campaigns, expansions and long-running mod catalogue. The package includes the original Company of Heroes, Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor rather than selling the expansions separately.

Relic is not rebuilding the game into Company of Heroes 3. The goal is to make the original easier to run and control on current PCs, with a 64-bit foundation, modern display support and quality-of-life changes that preserve the character of the older RTS.

The Definitive Edition contains the original game and both expansions

The base campaign follows Able Company from the D-Day landings through the liberation of France. Opposing Fronts adds the British 2nd Army and German Panzer Elite, while Tales of Valor contributes three shorter campaigns and additional multiplayer content.

Bundling that material gives new players one version to buy and gives returning players a clearer path than assembling legacy products. Relic has not announced the final price or whether existing owners receive a discount or upgrade option.

This edition is separate from Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand, the standalone roguelite wave-defense game released in July. Definitive Edition remains the original World War II RTS with its campaigns, skirmishes and competitive structure.

A 64-bit platform is central to long-term compatibility

Relic is moving the game from its older 32-bit base to a fully upgraded 64-bit platform. That should improve compatibility with current systems and remove an important technical constraint for a game expected to support large mods and modern operating environments.

The studio says the Definitive Edition maintains compatibility with roughly 20 years of community-created content. Mod support is more than a checklist item here: Company of Heroes has accumulated custom maps, balance projects and total-conversion work that players would otherwise risk losing in a new executable.

Compatibility claims still need practical testing at launch. Individual mods may depend on undocumented behavior or older tools, but Relic’s explicit decision to preserve the catalogue is a better starting point than requiring every project to be rebuilt for a closed new version.

Widescreen, controls and AI receive targeted updates

The HUD and screen layout are being adjusted for widescreen and ultrawide displays. Rendering improvements and increased draw distance are intended to improve battlefield presentation without replacing the game’s established art direction.

Control updates include grid keys and customizable hotkeys. Vehicle reversing and automatic reinforcement at headquarters address small but persistent pieces of unit management, while updated AI and a new Ruthless difficulty setting are meant to provide a stronger offline challenge.

These are restrained changes, but that is appropriate for this release. Company of Heroes depends on cover, facing, suppression and battlefield readability. A modernization is more useful if it removes friction without flattening the tactical behavior that made the original important.

The announcement does not describe a new faction, campaign rewrite or conversion to the technology used by later Company of Heroes games. Players should expect the 2006 design with a cleaner technical shell, not a replacement whose balance and mission logic have been rebuilt from zero.

Fall 2026 is confirmed, but the exact date is not

Relic lists a fall 2026 PC release window and has opened Steam wishlisting. An exact day, system requirements, price, multiplayer migration plan and owner-upgrade policy remain unannounced.

GTR is tracking the window in the 2026 game release calendar. Until Relic publishes the remaining commercial details, the firm information is the content bundle, 64-bit move, modern interface work and continued mod compatibility.
