Warframe: Tau is coming to all platforms in 2026, taking the game’s cinematic story beyond the Origin System to a binary star system shaped by the aftermath of the Old War. Digital Extremes’ official Tau page centers the update on Fornax, a decaying Sentient ring city controlled by crime, black rain and the Bloom.
Tau is being presented as a new setting that can support more than one short quest. The Lotus has been temporarily freed from the Indifference, opening the path outward, while Fornax introduces its own districts, enemy faction, central antagonist and side activity.
Fornax is a Sentient metropolis under black rain
Fornax was once an orbital ring city. Ages of corruption have turned it into a dense urban environment divided between slums, docks and a casino at its center. Digital Extremes describes the streets as soaked by madness-inducing black rain and the Bloom, with danger tied as much to the city’s condition as to its armed inhabitants.
The Fornax Drowners are a new group of Sentient enemies that has developed separately from the foes familiar to players in the Origin System. They act as enforcers and hired muscle across the city.
Above them sits the Hunra, the kingpin controlling Fornax’s criminal rackets. Reaching him requires pushing through loyalists and the parts of the city under his influence, giving the update a noir crime-story structure rather than treating Tau only as another alien battlefield.
Brysko combines an internal monologue with three weapons
Brysko is the Warframe attached to the Tau story. Digital Extremes describes him as a silent, noir-inspired investigator working with Albrecht Entrati to enter the Sentient underworld. Although he does not speak outwardly, his internal monologue gives the character a voice and a cynical view of the city.
His equipment includes the Corecracker, Rain & Shine and an Exalted Pistol. Rain & Shine are a pair of fist weapons, while the pistol forms part of Brysko’s ability-driven arsenal. Full ability values and acquisition requirements have not yet been published on the landing page.
The design gives Tau a defined protagonist without replacing the player’s wider arsenal. As with other cinematic Warframe updates, the exact relationship between the new quest, Brysko unlock and repeatable Fornax activities will become clearer closer to release.
Portau is Warframe’s first original card game
Inside the Fornax casino, players can take part in Portau. Digital Extremes calls it Warframe’s first original card game and lists four suits: Blooms, Cores, Moons and Suns.
The official page does not yet explain every rule, reward or multiplayer option. Its inclusion nevertheless shows that Fornax is meant to contain quieter activities alongside combat, similar to the way established Warframe hubs use local systems to give each destination a separate identity.
Portau also gives Digital Extremes a system that can be expanded independently of combat balance. Whether it becomes a collectible deck activity, a quest requirement or simply a local diversion is still unknown; the landing page confirms the concept and suits, not a complete ruleset.
Tau has a 2026 window, not an exact date
Digital Extremes says Tau is coming in 2026 to all platforms. The page does not provide a month or launch day, so more precise dates reported elsewhere should be treated as unconfirmed unless the developer updates its own schedule.
The release window is tracked in GTR’s 2026 game release calendar. Platform availability follows Warframe’s cross-platform footprint, but feature timing can still vary if Digital Extremes separates the cinematic quest from later additions.
No price applies to the base update because Warframe remains free to play, although associated bundles and cosmetics may be sold separately. Digital Extremes has not yet stated the quest prerequisites, so returning players should wait for an official preparation guide before rushing through older narrative content.
