Update — September 1, 2026: Ubisoft announced Title Update 1.0.7 for September 1 at 14:00 UTC. The patch adds options to hide Edward’s pistols and disable perk visual effects, introduces a rescueable dog that can join the Hideout, and fixes a long list of gameplay, stability, accessibility and quest issues. On Steam Deck, Ubisoft specifically fixed a black-screen problem that could occur when enabling HDR.
Ubisoft has also announced New Game+, although it has not provided a release date. The company’s FY27 first-quarter report says the remake reached 3.5 million copies sold-in within its first 14 days, exceeding Ubisoft’s annual expectations, while Steam concurrency later peaked at around 105,000 players. Sold-in is a distribution figure rather than confirmed consumer sell-through.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9, 2026, and the opening numbers confirm that Edward Kenway’s return is one of Ubisoft’s biggest PC releases of the year. SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 99,451 concurrent players on launch day, with the game also reaching the top of Steam’s seller chart during its opening window.
Resynced is not a basic remaster. Ubisoft officially describes it as a full remake rebuilt from the ground up on the latest version of the Anvil engine. It preserves the original story and Caribbean setting, but modernizes the visuals, combat, stealth, parkour, naval systems and world streaming while adding new missions and other content.
The Steam response has improved substantially since launch, with the store now classifying both its English and recent user reviews as Very Positive. This guide explains what changed, how demanding the PC version is, whether it works on Steam Deck, which console modes are available and what is included in each edition.

Is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced a remake or a remaster?
It is officially a remake. Ubisoft says Black Flag Resynced was rebuilt from the ground up using the latest evolution of its Anvil technology, the same engine family used for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft Singapore leads development, with several developers from the original Black Flag team returning.
The remake keeps Edward Kenway’s original journey, the Jackdaw and the conflict between Assassins and Templars as its foundation. It does not replace the campaign with a new story, but it expands the familiar structure with additional missions, scenes, characters and optional activities.
On the technical side, Ubisoft rebuilt the game’s assets for physically based rendering and micropolygon pipelines. The remake adds ray-traced global illumination and reflections, modernized water rendering, dynamic weather and more reactive environmental objects. The open world also streams more smoothly, including the removal of loading screens when entering major cities.
What changed in Black Flag Resynced?
Combat, stealth and parkour
Ground combat now uses a more modern parry-driven system with new takedowns, faster access to pistols and the rope dart, and an additional enemy type called the Demolitionist. The goal is to preserve the direct style of the original while giving encounters more timing, variety and responsiveness.
Stealth has been expanded with a crouch-anywhere system, an Observe mode that extends Eagle Vision, and the ability to dive from more locations when approaching ships or coastal objectives. Darkness and low-light areas now affect Edward’s visibility, which gives players more control over how they enter restricted areas.
Parkour adds manual jumps, side ejects, height-gaining back ejects and quicker interruptions between moves. These changes are especially relevant because the original game’s movement could feel rigid when Edward selected the wrong ledge or continued climbing when the player wanted to stop.
Naval combat and the Jackdaw
The Jackdaw remains central to the experience, but ship combat now includes new tools. Shrapnel barrels can damage enemy sails, while 8-pounder cannons create additional weak points in hostile hulls. Enemy equipment also changes depending on faction and allegiance.
Players can recruit officers for the Jackdaw, each providing a naval ability. Kenway’s Fleet has been reworked as well, allowing captured ships to generate passive income through trading and rare activities without depending on the original game’s external companion systems.
The remake adds more Jackdaw customization, including new skins and ship pets such as a cat or monkey. Ten new sea shanties join the returning soundtrack, and Ubisoft has reworked island-based “playas” with new rewards and encounters.
New story content
Ubisoft has recorded additional scenes and missions with returning performers, including Matt Ryan as Edward Kenway. The new material involves both familiar and new characters, but Ubisoft says it expands the original narrative rather than replacing its structure.
Why is Black Flag Resynced attracting so many players?
Black Flag remains one of the most distinctive Assassin’s Creed games because it combines a focused single-player story with open-sea exploration and naval combat. Resynced gives returning players a technically rebuilt version of that formula without turning it into the much larger role-playing structure used by several later entries.
SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 99,451 concurrent players on launch day. Ubisoft’s later FY27 first-quarter report put the Steam peak at around 105,000 players and reported 3.5 million copies sold-in within the first 14 days. The Steam figures do not include Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, PlayStation or Xbox.
Steam’s user response has improved since launch. The game opened with roughly 67% positive reviews, but Steam now classifies both its English-language and recent reviews as Very Positive. The early launch-day score is therefore useful as historical context, not as a description of the game’s current reception.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced PC requirements
Every official PC tier requires 16GB of RAM and 65GB of SSD storage. The game supports current upscaling and frame-generation technologies, while Ubisoft also lists software ray tracing for graphics cards without dedicated ray-tracing hardware. Dedicated handheld presets are included.
| Target | CPU | GPU | RAM / Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p, 30 FPS, Low | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | GTX 1660 6GB, RX 5500 XT 8GB or Intel Arc A580 8GB | 16GB RAM, 65GB SSD |
| 1080p, 60 FPS, Medium | Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | RTX 3060 12GB, RX 6600 XT 8GB or Intel Arc B580 12GB | 16GB RAM, 65GB SSD |
| 1440p, 60 FPS, High | Intel Core i5-11600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | RTX 3080 10GB or RX 6800 XT 16GB | 16GB RAM, 65GB SSD |
| 4K, 60 FPS, Ultra | Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RTX 4090 24GB or RX 7900 XTX 24GB | 16GB RAM, 65GB SSD |
The minimum tier targets 1080p at 30 FPS using the Low preset, standard ray tracing and balanced upscaling. The RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT tier targets 1080p at 60 FPS on Medium. The 4K Ultra specification is far more demanding because it uses extended ray tracing and a quality-focused upscaler mode.
Is Black Flag Resynced Steam Deck Verified?
Yes. Black Flag Resynced is Steam Deck Verified, and Valve’s compatibility data says the default controls work, interface text is readable and the default graphics configuration performs well on the handheld. SteamOS support is also confirmed.
The first-time setup requires an internet connection. After the game is downloaded and activated, the full main campaign can be played offline. Live Animus Hub features such as the Store, Anomalies, Projects and Vault still require an online connection.
PS5 and PS5 Pro graphics modes
On PlayStation 5, Ubisoft provides three display modes:
- Performance: 60 FPS
- Balanced: 40 FPS on a compatible 120Hz display
- Fidelity: 30 FPS with additional visual features
Ray-traced global illumination is available in all three modes, while Fidelity mode adds ray-traced reflections. The PS5 version also supports DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D Audio and faster SSD loading.
PS5 Pro receives higher graphical fidelity, additional rendering enhancements and improved PSSR support. Ubisoft also confirms a 60 FPS option for Xbox Series X.
Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s editions
The Standard Edition costs €59.99 / $59.99 and includes the base game. The Deluxe Edition costs €69.99 / $69.99 and adds the Master Assassin Character Pack and Master Assassin Naval Pack.
The character pack includes a costume for Edward, a sword, a pistol and a trinket with unique perks. The naval pack adds sails, a ship pet, crew clothing, a wheel, figurehead and hull trim. These are equipment and cosmetic extras rather than required campaign content.
The Collector’s Edition was listed at €199.99 / $199.99 and includes the Deluxe content plus physical items such as an Edward Kenway figurine, metal Assassin brooch, SteelBook, cloth map, logbook and sea-shanty music sheet. Availability depends on platform, country and retailer.
Does Black Flag Resynced include multiplayer?
No. Ubisoft confirms that the competitive multiplayer mode from the 2013 game is not part of Resynced. The development team has focused on the solo campaign, open world and new single-player content.
That is the clearest missing feature for players who enjoyed the original multiplayer. Everyone interested primarily in Edward’s story, exploration and naval combat receives a much broader technical and mechanical update than a normal remaster would provide.
Is Black Flag Resynced worth playing?
For returning players, Resynced offers the same core pirate adventure with modern movement, more flexible stealth, rebuilt naval systems and a substantially upgraded presentation. For newcomers, it provides a self-contained Assassin’s Creed story without requiring knowledge of the larger role-playing entries.
Black Flag Resynced combines a strong commercial launch with a Steam reception that has improved since release. Its biggest strengths are the setting, naval combat and the scale of the rebuild, while multiplayer remains its clearest omission.
