Take-Two Forces GTA 5 Multiplayer Mod Rage:MP to Shut Down

Take-Two forces shutdown of another Grand Theft Auto 5 multiplayer modding platform, with Rage:MP announcing that it will begin a structured wind-down after receiving a cease-and-desist order. The move comes as the publisher continues to tighten control over which fan-made multiplayer services can operate around GTA 5.

Rage:MP says it has been told to close

Rage:MP’s administrators said in a forum post that Rockstar Games and Take-Two have made FiveM the only authorized platform for GTA 5 multiplayer modding under the game’s Platform License Agreement. In response, Rage:MP says it will shut down its service in stages and is asking server owners to move their communities to FiveM.

The message makes clear that the shutdown is happening at Take-Two’s request, rather than by the platform’s own choice.

What changes for current servers

Rage:MP has already stopped accepting new community servers, and public access to its server toolkit has been discontinued. Existing server operators are being urged to migrate as soon as possible.

  • New community servers will no longer be accepted.
  • Public access to the server toolkit has ended.
  • Server owners are being told to move to FiveM.
  • The public server listing will shut down on June 1.
  • On August 31, the client, server toolkit, and backend infrastructure will be turned off.

The end of the road for Rage:MP

Rage:MP described the closure as a “structured shutdown,” giving users a transition period before the platform is fully taken offline. Its farewell message emphasized that the team understands the impact on both players and developers, and said it will keep helping with the move where it can.

The post also frames Rage:MP as a community-driven project, saying the platform’s identity was shaped more by its users than by the code itself.

Part of a wider GTA modding shake-up

The shutdown fits into a broader shift around GTA 5 roleplay and multiplayer modding. Rockstar previously pushed back against FiveM, but later moved to back it, and more recently announced Nopixel V as its official roleplay-focused path for GTA 5 experiences.

For players and server hosts still using Rage:MP, the immediate priority is clear: plan the transition before the service disappears later this year.
