Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is getting a direct sequel, and this time the gothic strategy series is swapping out its demonic subtitle for the suitably grim Deathwatch. Developer Complex Games is once again building a turn-based tactical RPG, picking up the same corner of the Warhammer 40,000 universe with a stronger focus on elite alien hunters, squad management, and hard-edged tactical combat.

A direct follow-up to Daemonhunters

Complex Games says the new project continues the work of the previous entry rather than starting over from scratch. The studio is leaning further into broad class identities, more flexible squad composition, and a wider spread of mission types and enemy forces.

That means players can expect more of the kind of deliberate, turn-based decision-making that defined the first game, but with more room to shape how a squad performs on the battlefield.

More mission variety and enemy factions

The Steam post tied to the announcement points to a healthy amount of content across the campaign. The game is said to feature more than 10 mission archetypes, three playable forces, and a range of enemy factions to fight against.

  • More than 10 mission archetypes
  • Three playable forces
  • Multiple enemy factions, including Orks and Genestealer Cults
  • Expanded squad customisation and composition options

Among the enemies highlighted so far are brutal Orks and the insidious Genestealer Cults, which should give the sequel a broad spread of battlefield problems to solve.

Skirmish mode is a new addition

One of the more notable changes is a new Skirmish Mode. This will let players build a team and experiment with squad setups and tactics against selected factions, which should make it easier to test different approaches without committing to a full campaign run.

For players who like the Warhammer setting but want a lower-pressure way to learn the systems, that sounds like a practical addition.

No release date yet

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch is already available to wishlist on Steam, but there is no release date at this stage. For now, the announcement mainly confirms that Complex Games is returning to the formula with a sequel that aims to expand the tactical options rather than replace them.
