Arrowhead is rolling out the first in a new wave of technical fixes for Helldivers 2, with performance improvements now taking priority after a rough stretch for the live-service shooter. The next patch lands on May 27 and focuses on three main areas: better upscaling support, visual optimisations, and lower latency.
What’s changing in the next patch
The update is being delivered across all platforms in collaboration with Nixxes Software, the port specialist working on the technical side of the game. On PC, the patch adds a broader set of upscaling options and new tools aimed at easing the load on demanding scenes.
Arrowhead says the patch is intended to improve performance rather than overhaul gameplay systems, and the initial changes are centred on the technical side of the experience.
PC players get the most specific upgrades
The clearest details are for PC. After the patch, Helldivers 2 will support:
- FSR 4.0.3 for compatible GPUs
- FSR 3.1.5
- DLSS 4.5
- XeSS 3.0
- Variable rate shading
- Dynamic resolution scaling
- Nvidia Reflex
- AMD Anti-Lag 2
Those additions should help the game adapt better when the action gets busy, whether that means more enemies on screen or heavier effects during missions. For players on PC, the practical impact is a better set of performance tools to trade visual quality for smoother frame rates and lower latency.
Why this matters for players
The timing is no accident. Helldivers 2 has recently been in a difficult spot with players, following a weaker Warbond and a broader drop in goodwill after the Siege of Cyberstan event. Recent Steam reviews have reflected that frustration.
That makes this patch more than a routine tweak. It is Arrowhead’s first visible step in trying to rebuild confidence by improving the game’s technical foundation.
More fixes are already planned
Arrowhead says this is only the beginning. The studio describes the update as the “opening salvo” in a wider effort to improve performance, and a dedicated tech-focused update is planned for later this summer.
The developer has also said more content is on the way, including:
- Longer in-game events
- New vehicles
- New red stratagems
- Additional additions still to be announced
For now, the main takeaway is simple: Helldivers 2 is getting a technical cleanup pass, with the first performance patch arriving on May 27 and more optimisation work promised after that.
